As most of you would be aware by now, starting this Saturday we will be shifting all classes going forward to the Adelaide street location. It has been a really tough situation for Max and I, as I am sure you can all appreciate. Margaret street has been our baby for the past 3.5 years and we were faced with an incredibly difficult circumstance.
Unfortunately, due to the continual noise complaints from the language school directly above the gym - including unrelenting phone calls to council, police and the real estate, plus imposed restrictions, we are unable to continue operating as a dedicated CrossFit facility at Margaret St.
For those of you that started at Margaret street, when we first opened (or Ami who turned up before we had started building only to see a lot of empty office space, looking at us like we were deluded/insane for thinking we could turn it into a gym- haha). We know Margaret street has been like a second home for a lot of you, sometimes somewhere to hide from work, start your morning off with a laugh or take your mind off the daily grind after a tough day at work. We know you will feel it just as much as we do, and we give our sincerest apologies.
Whilst it is heartbreaking - it is also bittersweet. With change comes new possibilities.
We are now in the process of creating a superior CrossFit training facility for you all to enjoy.
We, along with the coaches, are dedicated in providing you with the best quality of coaching, experience, facilities and equipment. It will be an absolutely amazing space.
In addition to the equipment from Margaret street, new equipment has been ordered, and will be arriving over the next couple of months.
Custom height Rx ropes- no more spending the majority of the class untangling the mess that was there before. (they have already arrived!!)
Bigger pull up rig- we will be setting up an additional rig on the grey wall which means we can run barbell club and gymnastics consecutively and the gym will be able to accommodate more people.
Wearable technology- (Randall we finally heard your call) those wanting for those who want to know how hard they work each CrossFit session we will be integrating wearable technology into the gym, we will have monitors which will show your individual performance and a leader board for most calories burnt in a session etc.
Wall Balls- no longer will you get fragments of material in your eyes as you throw a busted wall ball to the yellow line.
Please treat all the new equipment with respect. Unfortunately, nothing is unbreakable but the more we care for the equipment the longer we will have quality gear to enjoy.
Most importantly, we are excited to createONE community in the ONE space once again. Whilst most of you have ‘your class’ that you regularly attend, you will soon meet more people within the community. We have always had great feedback from visitors on how welcoming and friendly our community is- so let’s all play nicely and no gang wars in the first week when 5:30am Marg & 6am Adelaide combine forces.
This will also mean regular community events such as Friday Night Lights, in-house weight lifting and strong man competition, along with regular community catch ups, BBQ’s and movie premiere nights (StarWars is in the Calendar).
Over the next month we will be trialing some timetable changes. If you have any feedback within that time please feel free to send your suggestions through to Max or I. We have tried our hardest to accommodate for the majority, so apologies for any inconvenience this might cause.
A quick run-down in point form:
Morning classes will now run 5:30am, 6:30am & 7:30am;
Lunch times will be 45 minutes in length, please turn up 5-10 mins early to run through your own warm up that will be provided for you as it will be straight into class when the time hits;
Due to the new equipment at Adelaide street we will be trailing a barbell and gymnastics club run side by side;
Addition of open gym between regular class training times- this will give you an opportunity to hit a session if you can’t make a class, or give you the opportunity to work on any skills.;
Additional Friday afternoon open gym and evening CrossFit classes- a good excuse to get out of after work drinks.
Please see the below timetable, with highlighted changes to classes in yellow.
Whilst we anticipate that class sizes might be slightly bigger than you are used to, you have our promise that we will have two coaches on in our peak classes to make sure everyone is receiving valuable coaching tips and continually improving. As we have a class cap of 18 people this means 2 coaches to every 9 members in the class. Please bear with us next week, we have anticipated peak classes and will make amendments in the following week if our predictions were a little skewed.
Important things to consider:
Booking in to classes- as we anticipate class sizes will be a little bigger to ensure that you get into your ideal class time we ask that you book on mindbody in advance to secure your spot.
Cancelling Class- please make sure if you aren’t unable to attend that you cancel your class in advance rather than not turning up or cancelling a minute before the class is set to start.
Lunch classes- as these will be 45minute classes please don’t be late. Unfortunately, we will be under time pressure to get you through the workout before the next class begins. It is integral that you are there 5-10minutes early, and warm yourself up appropriately before the start of class.
Parking- I know a lot of you drive to Margaret street of a morning, there is parking available on eagle street, or in spring hill which is a short walk from the gym. And a couple of loading zones in Hutton lane (50m from gym door) that don’t start until 7am. Allow a couple of minutes extra in the first week to accommodate for the glorious maze of one-way streets in the CBD.
We have placed a hold on accepting new memberships until a regular routine is established – there is currently a waitlist for new starters.
Whilst we hope to make the transition from two gyms to one as seamless as possible, we are aware there may be a few speed bumps along the way. Please bear with us over the next couple of weeks.
We are also always open to feedback. Things you would like to see, additions that you think would benefit the community etc. Please feel free to send any feedback, queries or concerns to Max or myself ( email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org).
Tomorrow will be the last day we will be operating classes out of Margaret street, please feel free to drop in, say your final good byes, leave a little piece of your DNA behind on the gym floor and drop some moderately heavy weight. It will be the last time to bask in the glorious feeling of dumping a 35kg bar, sounding like you have just lifted over a tonne.
For those interested in 5:30am, Randall has grand plans for some kind of musical number that involves us dropping weight at different intervals to create a tune.. Should be an interesting experiment.
Hope to see you all tomorrow. If not I will see you sometime next week at Adelaide street.
Just a little reminder, we will be having a working bee on Sunday to get Adelaide fully operational for Monday morning. If you have any spare time, need a little extra workout or would like to try your hand at painting we would really appreciate any time you could spare. Please see the Facebook event on the community page for more details.
Thank you all for your on-going understanding and support.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
