Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and New Year and you are starting to hit the gym with a new-found enthusiasm.
Firstly, I thought it might be worthwhile to do a quick recap of the Christmas party. Thank you for all those that could attend. It was such a fun night, and was great to see so many of you there. I think all-in-all our best venue thus far.
Just a quick recap of the awards:
Member of the Year - 2017: Erin Ley & Ami Schwartz
Most Improved - 2017: Courtney Newey & The Mo’s
Spirt of 4000: Liz Peterson & Al Thompson
Congratulations!! It was tough decision for us this year, so many worthy recipients. Thank you all for your commitment to training this year, for your ease of transition into one gym and for all your support and help shutting down Margaret Street.
Now 2018! Nothing more exciting than the start of a new year!
It is a really great time to set some new goals of where you want to be by the end of this year. If goal setting isn’t your jam or a new concept to you my best advice is to keep them SMART:
Set short-, mid- and long-term goals. Short is something you want to achieve in 1-3months, mid- in 6months & long- 12 months. Revise your short & mid-term goals once they have been achieved & time is up. Think of short term as the little steps you need to get you to the long term. Once you have set your goals write them on the goals board at the gym!
Some great things to get involved with this year:
CrossFit Open: This is something that intimidates a lot of people. Every year we hear the same ‘I am not fit enough, I’ll do it next year’, ‘I think I need to be training for a little longer before I give it a go’. Whilst I can appreciate the hesitation, there is no time better than this year to test your skills and then you can see how you go the following year and see how much you have improved. The CrossFit open is open for everyone no matter your age or ability level. There is a scaled and Rx division and is all completely achievable for the very beginner to the more experienced CrossFitter. What better goal than to go into it with no expectation other than participating, and it will help concrete your goals for the remainder of the year as to what you wish to work on or work toward.
CrossFit Team Series: Around September there is a CrossFit team series to participate in. Similar to the Open, the team series is open to all ability levels. This could be your training focus after the open, what skills you wish to improve on by then.
And that is just CrossFit. Your goal this year might be to run a marathon, do a triathlon, do an adventure race. Talk to the coaches about how we can help facilitate in achieving your goals.
We will be posting all the competitions & events we are aware of that are coming up. Feel free to email me if you see something that we haven't yet posted that you think people might be interested in.
Don't forget that we have all the specialty classes to help improve your gymnastic, olympic lifting skills and Endurance if you wish to focus on a goal outside of CrossFit.
What is happening in the gym 2018
Yin Yoga: With the impending baby in May we have cut yoga back to Friday, 1:15-2:00pm. This means we will resume regular CrossFit classes alongside Barbell Club on Tuesday’s and Saturday’s we will continue with the 7:30-8:30 CrossFit class.
After much thought, and a little bit of pressure from some of our members we are going to be trialing lunch time specialty classes leading in to the open.
They will run alongside the general CrossFit Class. They will only be a 45-minute session, and is aimed at those who have family and after-work commitments that prevents them from making these classes.
They will kick off on 15 January and run until the start of the CrossFit Open 23 February. If you want to see these classes stick around after the open we need your support. The classes will be as follows:
Gymnastics: Mon & Wed, 1:15-2:00pm
Barbell Club: Tues & Thurs: 1:15-2:00pm
A little bit about these classes.
Gymnastics: this is dedicated time to help you work on your gymnastic goals. This is suited to the absolute beginner to the more experienced CrossFitter. Joel runs the classes so if you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask.
Barbell Club: this is dedicated time to work on your Olympic Lifts (Clean & Jerk, and Snatch). These are such technical movements; barbell club breaks them down to their smaller components to help you improve your technique.
If you have any questions or feedback in relation to the above please don’t hesitate to contact me email@example.com.
Looking forward to seeing you all smash your goals this year!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
